Wood contractor arraigned for alleged N2m fraud in Ondo

A 70-year old wood contractor, Lasisi Ishola has been arraigned before an Odigbo Chief Magistrate Court over an alleged fraud

The defendant appeared before Chief Magistrate Festus Akinlolu on two count charge bordering on fraud

According to the prosecution, the offence was committed sometimes in November 2023 between 10a.m and 6p.m at Oke Ayo Street Omifon via Odigbo, Ondo State

Prosecuting Inspector, Usifoh James , told the court that the defendant fraudulently obtained the sum of two million naira under the pretence that he will sell his house to one Adegoke Anthony in which he failed to do after signing an agreement for the said transaction

He also alleged that the defendant fraudulently convert the sum of two million naira to his own use being amount paid by one Adegoke Anthony for the purchase of his building which he failed to hand over to him

The offences, Usifoh said, contravened Sections 419, 383 of the Criminal Code, Cap. 37, Volume 1, Laws of Ondo State of Nigeria, 2006.

The defendants pleaded not guilty to the charges.

The prosecutor prayed the court for an adjournment to allow him study the case file and assemble witnesses.

Defence counsel, Mr H. A Ogiren did not oppose application made by the prosecutor, but prayed the court to grant the defendant bail in most liberal term

Ruling on the application, Chief Magistrate Festus Akinlolu admitted the defendant to bail in the sum of N500, 000 with two sureties in like sum.

The case was adjourned till May 23, 2025 for hearing
