As the world celebrates International Day of Education today, the Chairman, Ondo State Universal Basic Education Board (SUBEB), Mr. Victor Olabimtan has called on relevant stakeholders to support the Governor Oluwarotimi Akeredolu-led administration in total transformation of the education sector in Ondo State.

The International Day of Education is a day set aside by the resolution of the United Nations General Assembly on December 8th 2018 to celebrate the role of education in bringing global peace and sustainable development.

In a statement by the Board’s Director of Press, Bolu Ajijo, Olabimtan described education as the bedrock of all civilization and development, peaceful co-existence, growth and development of human race.

His words, “Because of the premium the current Government under the leadership of Arakunrin Oluwarotimi Akeredolu SAN, CON placed on education, it prioritises development in the sector by investing public funds especially in basic education.

“This is why the Government of Arakunrin Oluwarotimi Akeredolu SAN, CON on coming to office in 2015, despite, depleting State resources, paid all outstanding Counterpart Funds of Universal Basic Education Commission, UBEC which has enable the State to re-engineer the Basic Education Sector making it one of the best in the country in terms of pupils enrollment, thus reducing out-of-school children and performance in both internal and external examinations

“As at end of last year, 1,200 teachers were recruited to fill existing critical vacancies in public primary schools, in addition to construction, reconstruction, renovation of school buildings, provisions of furniture for teachers and pupils as well bole-holes and other necessities to make teaching and learning more friendly.”

While stressing that education is the most important weapon to right, illiteracy, ignorance, tribalism, nepotism, corruption and all other sociopolitical ills, he called on all stakeholders to join hands with Ondo State Government, especially Ondo SUBEB, to be able to achieve the lofty ‘Education for All’ vision of UNESCO.
