The Chairman of Ekiti State Universal Basic Education Board, Prof Femi Akinwumi has congratulated teachers in the state on the occasion of 2025 World Teachers Day.

Prof. Akinwumi while celebrating with teachers in Ado Ekiti said he recognised the critical roles they play in shaping societies, applauding their collective efforts that have continued to enhance educational outcomes in the state.

He described teachers as integral part of nation building, noting that without them, a strong, vibrant and egalitarian society could not have existed which confirmed the popular saying “No Teachers, No Nation”

The SUBEB boss pointed at the immense contributions of teachers as key agents of transformation at various levels of education, adding that teachers are the most recognised stakeholder in the school factor, particularly when it comes to learning.

Reflecting on the theme of the celebration, “Recasting Teaching as a Collaborative Profession”, Prof. Akinwumi said the values of teachers in building the nation and Ekiti State could never be underestimated because their role in education is the bedrock upon which the future is built.

He reiterated the significance of the celebration, stressing that it reminded us of the passion teachers bring to their profession, doing everything it takes to positively impact their students’ lives, their devotion to teaching, modelling and preparing the young minds to fulfil their dreams and accomplishing their mission for a distinct name and enviable future.

The don, while stating that it was in recognition of teachers values to the society that made the United Nations Educational Scientific and Cultural Organisation (UNESCO) to set a day aside every year to celebrate and honour their passion, adding that the occasion has always been one of felicitations and rewarding the sacrifice teachers make to mould individuals in order to achieve a viable, strong and egalitarian society.

He highlighted the various achievements of the state Governor, Mr. Biodun Oyebanji in the education system, especially in the areas of infrastructures, manpower development and welfares, stressing that primary school teachers in the state are also benefitting from car and housing loans as well as upgrade to the highest echelon of grade level 16 in the state’s workforce.

The SUBEB chairman expressed the optimism of the governor to continue to support and honour the passion of teachers in order to increase their efficiency and spur them for more effective service delivery.

He however called on the teachers to be more proactive, committed and dedicated to duty because to whom much is given much is required, noting also that their massive support for the governor to ensure continuity would attract more dividends for them and the teaching profession.
