YESSO trains youths on social intervention

All is now set for the implementation of Ondo State social intervention programme, tagged Youths Employment and Social Support Operation (YESSO) as a three-day Community Based Targeting (CBT) training has been organised for CBT team and Enumerators on collection of database.

The training which is targeted  at officers selected from the six Local government areas identified to have high level of poverty as first batch, is aimed at equipping the participants with skills needed on how to generate Social register of the poor and vulnerable households in the communities to benefit from the scheme.

Speaking at the opening ceremony of the workshop, the Special Assistant to the state governor on Mrs Bunmi Ademosu said the Community Based Targeting programme is another arm of social interventions agenda of the current administration to help the less privilege.

According to her, the CBT apolitical intervention programme will help the economic growth of Ondo state, and afford the beneficiaries opportunity to feel the impart of the government and to know they are part of the citizens of this state.

Reacting on the measures put in place to ensure the programme is not abused, Ademosu said “we will use a device that we were just being taught on how to operate to identify the poor , we will visit the home of the identified person and see clearly that they are really poor and need assistance.

 The Acting National Coordinator of YESSO Mrs Aljara Sammie, explained that the programme adopts a Community Based Targeting approach to identify the poor and the vulnerable through which the selected leaders of the communities are made  to use propert materials that is obtainable in their locality to identify poor households.

 The World Bank representative at the programme Mr. Ayo Fasogbon said the database of poor and vulnerable households in Ondo state that will be generated through the CBT programme will also be used for other potentials interventions programmes being supported by YESSO.

According to him, World Bank is to provide the credit to support YESSO programme, and technical assistance to the CBT team to make sure they have a very good grasp of developing social registry called database.

Earlier, the State Coordinator of YESSO, Mr. Bankole Olaoluwa listed the six local government areas that made up the first batch to include, Ese-Odo, Akoko Southwest, Owo, Ifedore, Ile-Oluji, and Akure North.

He appreciated the Federal Operating Unit of YESSO and the world Bank for the support given in ensuring that the programme is operationalize in the state.
