A pan-Yoruba socio-cultural group, the Defense for Yoruba People’s Right (DYPR),  has stressed the needs for members to close their ranks, embrace harmony, peace and mutual coexistence among themselves in order to ensure more peace and progress of the race.

The group also condemned the move for the implementation of the report of the 2014 National Conference, saying the move will not have any positive effect on the development of the country, rather cause political unrest in all regions in the country.

The group made the call yesterday in Akure, the Ondo State capital in a communique  issued and signed by the National President of the group, Otunba Muyideen Olamoyegun.

It explained that the meeting was conveyed by leaders of the group to discuss on some national topical issues bothering on the development of the Yoruba race and other parts of the country.

The group also in the release commended the Federal Government for rejecting the report of the 2014 National Conference, which it said would not help in solving the current situation in the country, especially the problem of insecurity..

Lamenting what it called mass misery which he said has enveloped some parts of the race in recent time, especially the recent rate of Christians killings in southern Kaduna, poverty and hunger among others.

The group also urged the Buhari-led government to do everything within its capacity in putting the country back on track.

The communique read “Why do we choose to divide ourselves in Yoruba land? Knowing fully well that a house that is against itself can never stand. So we want the power to go back to the North in another eight years because we want restructuring that will not make us better than we are.

“The state of Nigeria at the moment, is very  alarming especially the mass killings going on as the states appeared to be helpless to curb these killings, the people clamouring for restructuring in southwest Nigerians are people who are actually putting the country backwards.

The group used the occasion to disassociate its members from those calling for the restructuring and stressed the need for the way forward and the success  in 2019 general elections
