The Chief of the Air Staff (CAS), Air Marshal Hasan Bala Abubakar, has reaffirmed the Nigerian Air Force’s (NAF) commitment to the welfare and operational effectiveness of its personnel.
In a statement made available to The Hope on April 1, 2025 by the Deputy Director of Public Relations and Information, Headquarters, Nigerian Air Force, Group Captain Kabiru Ali, the CAS gave the assurance while hosting the 2025 Sallah Luncheon with troops of the Air Component, Operation FANSAN YAMMA, in Katsina State.
The statement noted that the CAS commended the troops for their resilience, dedication, and professionalism in safeguarding the nation, assuring them that their sacrifices would not go unrecognised.
It further stated that Air Marshal Abubakar, represented by the Air Officer Commanding Special Operations Command, Air Vice Marshal (AVM) Usman Kandi Abdullahi, applauded the troops for their unwavering commitment to national security, highlighting their achievements in recent operations.
“Your relentless efforts in conducting air interdiction missions, disrupting enemy supply chains, and delivering precision strikes have significantly degraded adversary capabilities,” he stated.
He further emphasised that their sacrifices, often under harsh conditions, reaffirm the NAF’s resolve to safeguard Nigeria and ensure lasting peace in the region.
While acknowledging the challenges inherent in every operational environment, the CAS urged the troops to remain steadfast in their mission to restore normalcy.
“We must not allow obstacles to deter us. Our mandate is clear, and we will press forward with determination until total victory is achieved,” he declared.
The CAS also paid tribute to fallen heroes, describing their ultimate sacrifice as a source of inspiration.
He called for a moment of reflection in their honour and assured that their contributions to national security would never be forgotten.
The CAS also took the opportunity to thank the Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces, President Bola Tinubu, for his unwavering support for the NAF.
He further acknowledged the contributions of the Minister of Defence, the Minister of State for Defence, and the Chief of Defence Staff in bolstering the NAF’s operational capacity.
Additionally, he commended the Governor of Katsina State, Malam Umaru Dikko Radda, for his collaboration with the NAF in enhancing security efforts.
He also recognised the invaluable support of the Theatre Commander, Joint Task Force Operation Fansan Yamma, as well as the Nigerian Army, other security agencies, and host communities in ensuring mission success.
In his welcome address, the Air Component Commander, Operation FANSAN YAMMA (AC OPFY), Air Commodore O. I. Jibia, highlighted the Sallah Luncheon as a vital morale-boosting event for frontline troops committed to securing the nation.
He noted that the occasion provided an opportunity for the CAS and other dignitaries to celebrate Eid -el-Kabir with personnel, particularly Muslim faithful serving in the theatre.
The Air Commodore also expressed appreciation for the troops’ unwavering dedication, acknowledging their sacrifices and commitment.
“Your valour, exceptional dedication, and selfless service embody the true spirit of the Nigerian Air Force.
“We owe the Service and the nation our unwavering commitment to do even more,” he added.
The event concluded on a high note, fostering camaraderie and reinforcing the troops’ dedication to the ongoing fight against insecurity.
