Youth leader arraigned for burglary, theft

The police in Ekiti State Police Command on Thursday arraigned a  26-year-old man, Amos Ayuba, before an Ado-Ekiti Chief Magistrate’s Court over alleged burglary and stealing.

The defendant, who was until his arraignment a youth leader in Omisanjana area of Ado-Ekiti, is standing trial on a three-count charge bordering on conspiracy, stealing and store breaking.

The  prosecutor, Inspector  Akinwale Oriyomi, told the court that the defendant and others at large committed the offence on January 8 at about 1530hrs at Omisanjana area in Ado-Ekiti.

Oriyomi alleged that the defendant and others at large stole two pigs valued at N500,000, belonging to one  Mr. Bamidele Omolade.

He alleged that the defendant and others at large also stole subversive pumping machine, electrical gadget valued at N1.1 million, belonging to the complainant.

He further alleged that the defendant and others at large broke into the store of the complainant.

According to him, the offences contravene Sections 302, 302 and 325 of the Criminal Laws of Ekiti State, 2021.

The prosecutor asked the court for an adjournment to enable him study the case file and present his witnesses.

The defendant pleaded not guilty to the charges preferred against him, while his Counsel, Mr Tunmise Akinwunmi, urged the court to grant his client bail.

Chief Magistrate Bankole Oluwasanmi, granted bail to the defendant in the sum of N60,000 with one surety in like sum.

He adjourned the case till April 26 for hearing.
