Youths on rampage as truck crushes man to death in Akoko

Aggrieved youths in Akungba Akoko, on Thursday set ablaze an articulated lorry after the driver hit and crushed to death a yet to be identified commercial motorcycle operator at the dreaded Okerigbo hill in the town.

According to an eye witness, the lorry hit the motorcyclist while trying to ascend the hill but suddenly surged backward as it could not move forward.

The deceased motorcyclist who was said to be coming from Ikare was not that lucky as the truck hit him on his bike.

Efforts to get the identity of the deceased was not successful as at the time of filing this report.

Meanwhile, the burnt truck was still in flames when our reporter visited the scene.

However, efforts by the men of the Federal Roads Safety Corps and the Nigerian Police, Ikare Akoko Unit Command and Akungba Division respectfully, to evacuate the corpse from the scene were prevented by the angry youths.

According to the Unit Commander of the FRSC in Ikare, Mr Oluropo Alabi, the irate youths did not only prevented his men from conveying the corpse to the mortuary but went ahead to threaten to destroy their vehicle.

In the same vein, the DPO, Akungba Akoko Police Division, SP Shakiru Ajibola who confirmed the accident said he led his men to the scene but were also prevented from carrying the corpse by the angry youths.
