Youths on rampage over herbalist’s
death during sex romp with Pastor’s wife

The details of the untimely death of a popular herbalist in Ikere-Ekiti, headquarters of Ikere local government area of Ekiti State, still remain sketchy, not only to the family, but to all residents of the second largest town by of the State.

The late herbalist, Kehinde Fadayomi, who went  popularly   by the appellation of “Ejiogbe” was said to be a notable herbalist and traditional worshiper in the town.

He was said to have been caught in the web of infidelity and met his  untimely end after a sex romp with a Pastor’s wife at a popular hotel located at the outskirts of the ancient community.

Shortly after the  incident which almost threw the entire community into chaos  at about 5:30pm on the fateful day,  the news about the death of the traditional worshiper was broken in the town.

It was reliably gathered from the residents of the town that the herbalist had been in an illicit relationship with the wife of a Pastor .

The Pastor had also on several occasions reportedly warned the late herbalist to steer clear of his wife, the  development  which had  generated argument between the  deceased and the family of the Pastor.

It was learnt that the late herbalist had on the fateful day lodged at the hotel with the wife of the Pastor. After  some hours,  he was said to have slumped in the hotel room.

All efforts made by the woman to revive him  proved abortive, after which  she  raise an alarm. The development  later attracted residents and the hotel’s workers to the scene.

     He was said to have been  rushed to a private hospital located few meters to the hotel, where he was later confirmed dead by  doctors  in the hospital.

The news of the death of the  herbalist  resulted into tension as some youths hurriedly mobilised themselves to launch an attack on the church.

The attack was prevented by a team of Police officers from the Divisional Police Station in the town. Though, some parts of the church was  vandalised  by the angry youths.

The remains of the  deceased  has been  deposited at the morgue of the Ekiti State Specialist Hospital, Ikere-Ekiti, while his sex partner  was arrested and held in the protective custody by the police .

Speaking on the matter, the Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO), Ekiti State Command, Mr Sunday Abutu, said the woman, a 53-year-old was detained at the Ekiti State Police Command headquarters, apparently for  investigations and also to protect her from the angry youths.

Abutu  said that investigations had commenced on the circumstances leading to the death of the man. “I can confirm the death of the man in one of the hotels at Ikere-Ekiti. His corpse has been retrieved and deposited at the morgue.

“Let me quickly tell you that the woman in question is with us already as we commence investigations to unravel the cause or otherwise of the man’s death,” Abutu said.

    Also speaking, a 47-year-old woman, who claimed to be member of the woman’s church  but  doesn’t want her name mentioned, said the herbalist had been having illicit affair with the wife of the founder of the church for some time.

Describing the death of the traditionalist as very unfortunate, she  explained that the late “Ejiogbe” was formerly a member of the church and a close ally of the founder before he stopped   coming to the church.

Some sources said that the herbalist was a polygamist who already had four wives and had been suspected to have afflicted the pastor sometimes due to a running confrontation he  had with the pastor over his wife.

The Hope also gathered from some residents who do not want their names in print that it was the deceased  that placed the dreaded ‘Magun’ on the pastor’s wife contrary to popular belief that the pastor was the culprit.

Information also had it that it had been the source of quarel between the pastor and his wife which  almost resulted into separation. However, the pastor had always accepted his wife back  due to reconciliatory effort  of  their families  before the last debacle     

Similarly, a community leader in Odo-Oka, Ikere-Ekiti, Chief Ajayi Olanusi, said the community was thrown into mourning following the death of the  traditionalist.

He explained that  the incident  would have resulted into riot but was averted  by a detachment of police officers from the Ekiti State Police Command.
