YSFON Tourney: Ondo wins Finland ticket

The Ondo State representative (Akure City Football Academy) at the Youth Sports Federation of Nigeria (YSFON) Presidential National U-17 soccer Tournament held in Ilorin, Kwara State have won a ticket to Finland.
They won the Finland ticket after came second in the competition behind the host, Kwara Football Academy who won a Norway ticket as the champion of the competition.
Ondo State team guided by coach Banjo Adepoju and assisted by coach Oladimeji Abimbola will jet out of the country by October /November while Kwara will wait till February/March .
Both teams will be representing Nigeria in under – 17 football competition in Finland and Norway respectively.
The former assistant coach of Sunshine Stars sailed the state through to the final of the competition after played goalless draw with Bauchi and a 2-2 draw with Kwara State in the group stage with Ayodele Ayomiposi and David Joseph on the score sheet for the Sunshine state.
They pipped Benue 1-0 in the quarter final with Ayodele Ayomiposi scored the lone goal while Gaius Chinedu struck to give Ondo State victory over Ekiti State in the semifinal.
Before slipped to a 2-0 loss to Kwara State in the final, Ondo State were unlucky to have received a red card in the first half of the encounter.
The former head coach of Rising Stars, in a chat with Sporting Hope said the red card affected his team’s game plan but thank God for everything .
Technical Director of Akure City Academy revealed that this is the first time time the state is achieving this feat in 23 years.
According to him, I’m excited for taking the state to the final of the competition for the first since 1998, it has been my dream to represent my state and my country. I thank God that the dream come to reality earlier than expected, I will not only represent the state but Nigeria at the international competition,
