As the Christmas season unfolds, the Deji of Akure Kingdom, Oba Aladetoyinbo Ogunlade Aladelusi, has implored residents of Akure to embrace peace and avoid anger, emphasising the importance of harmonious living during the festive period.
Delivering his message during the Christmas Carol and Service of Lessons, themed Peace Like a River, held at the Deji’s Palace in Akure, the monarch underscored that Christmas is not merely a time for merriment but an opportunity to demonstrate love through peaceful coexistence.
Oba Aladetoyinbo, in his royal address, urged residents to reflect on the true meaning of Christmas, which he described as embodying peace and unity.
He highlighted the significance of Jesus Christ as a symbol of salvation, peace, and goodwill, noting that peace remains pivotal to resolving all challenges.
“Anytime I pray, the Lord answers, so we will continue to do this every year to honour, appreciate, and praise God. It is a message from God.
“Christmas should not only be celebrated with friends but with all people. As believers, when we remember the birth of Jesus Christ, we have to appreciate and praise him for what He has done.
“It is not a time to be angry with others but to make peace, for only peace brings development.
“We should shun anger and always love one another for peace to reign in the kingdom and the state,” the monarch said.
The traditional ruler also prayed for the spirit of Christmas to fortify bonds, inspire progress, and usher in peace and prosperity for the town, urging residents to carry forward lessons of kindness, unity, and hope into the new year.
Speaking, the Attorney General and Commissioner for Justice, Kayode Ajulo, lauded Oba Aladetoyinbo for dedicating a day to thank God for His blessings throughout the year.
He encouraged residents to emulate the monarch’s gratitude and commitment to peace, calling for adherence to laws to ensure the kingdom’s progress.
In his sermon, Pastor Kayode Olorunfemi, Deputy General Evangelist of Christ Miracle Mission, emphasised the need for individuals to champion peace, noting that Christmas offers an opportunity to reconcile with God through Jesus Christ.
He urged residents to wage a personal battle against anger, describing it as a source of confusion.
“Whenever there is anger, there is confusion,” the clergyman said.
Olumuyiwa Adu, in his remarks, commended the monarch for organising the carol service, urging people to emulate the virtues of Jesus Christ, especially in caring for the less privileged and fostering community love.
The event attracted dignitaries, including the Commissioner for Physical Planning and Urban Development, Gbenga Olaniyi; a lawmaker representing Akure North Constituency at the Ondo State House of Assembly, Kolawole Ologede; the Chairman of Akure South, Gbenga Fasua; and traditional rulers and senior high chiefs of Akure Kingdom.
The carol service featured Bible readings, prayers, and captivating performances by choirs and guest artists, leaving attendees inspired to carry the message of peace and love into the festive season.
