As the festive period approaches, the Federal Road Safety Commission, FRSC, in Ondo State targets reducing road crashes and fatality by 50 and 30 percents respectively.
The Ikare Akoko Unit Commander of the commission, Mr Bashir Jimoh stated this at a public forum in Ikare Akoko.
Jimoh who was represented at the occasion by the unit’s Chief Routes Commander, Kabeer Mohammed said to achieve this, the support of the general public is highly important.
According to him, the commission is relying on the people whether as drivers, passengers or motorists to realise this.
“We cannot achieve this target without the support from the people. We are relying on people either as passengers, motorists or drivers”.
He therefore charged road users to always be safety conscious.
Bashir tasked road users to adhere to safety tips by embarking on what he called ‘morning parade’.
He disclosed that by ‘morning parade’, drivers and motorists should first check the water level in their radiators, then proceed to check the engine oil, fan belt, tyres and start the engine and wait to run it for at least five minutes before embarking on their journeys.
Similarly he enjoined drivers and passengers, where applicable, to put on safety belts.
Equally he urged passengers to always caution drivers on over speeding and recklessness as 85% of accidents are caused by human factors such as excessive speeding, overloading and reckless driving.
