From Michael Ofulue, Osogbo
Ahead of this year’s Christmas celebrations, the Commandant of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC), Osun State Command, Igbalawole Sotiyo, has deployed 1,750 personnel across the state.
The officers have been mandated to provide tight security, engage in both covert and overt operations, and carry out round-the-clock surveillance on all critical national assets and infrastructure to ensure a peaceful and crime-free festive period.
In a statement, the Commandant assured the public of adequate protection for their lives and properties, urging residents to report any suspicious movements to the relevant security agencies.
He revealed that the extensive security arrangements in the state were necessary to prevent individuals with dubious intentions from exploiting the festive period to commit crimes.
“I have given a marching order to all Divisional Officers across the state to deploy personnel to worship centres, market places, recreation centres, and other potential flashpoints,” he said.
He also urged the officers to collaborate with other security agencies to ensure thorough security coverage in Osun State during and after the celebrations, warning those planning to disrupt public order to reconsider or face the consequences of their actions.
Sotiyo further called on the deployed personnel to remain civil but firm in their duties and appealed to the public to report any suspicious movements to the nearest security agency.
On behalf of the officers and men of the NSCDC, Osun State Command, Sotiyo wished residents of Osun State a Merry Christmas and a prosperous New Year in advance.
