Ondo State Basketball Coach, Sola Aluko has attributed the recent feat recorded by Sunshine Angels to the various grassroots developmental programmes of the state’s association.
Aluko said the coaching crew depend and equip the young players they discovered at the grassroots level to prosecute the competition and qualify for the League.
He stated this in an interview with newsmen in Akure,the state capital after his girls qualified from the league qualification organised by the Nigeria Basketball Federation held in Benin, Edo State.
The coach appealed to the state government to expedite action on release of needed fund for the association, saying the young Basketball players need lots of motivation to get going.
The Ondo state women basketball team Sunshine Angels have picked one of the tickets to play in the Nigeria top women basketball league.
The team came second behind MFM basketball team of Lagos in group A after loosing the last game by 51-58 points at the Samuel Ogbemudia stadium Benin city Edo State.
He, however charged the organizers of different competition to ensure they release participating letters early to plan and beat all the bureaucratic to ensure we get fund as government sponsored team.
He said: “We have to depend on the younger ones we have, we equip them with practice ,infact we have been expecting this promotion to come for a very long time. Nevertheless, we have been practicing and thank God our efforts did not went in vain.”
at least, two of our young players have been invited to the national team, it shows we know what we are doing and the fact that we have a lot of talents in the state.
