Sports lovers and Sunshine Stars fans have called on the State government to start the much talked rebranding of the club early to avoid battling relegation as usual.
The League Management Company (LMC) has fixed October for the commencement of 2021/22 Nigeria Professional Football League (NPFL)
In a chat with Sporting Hope, some of the fans who preferred to be anonymous said every other club across the country have been busy in the transfer market selling and signing new players in preparation for the new season.
“They said it gladdens their heart that Sunshine Stars survived the battle against drop zone last season, they are urging the government to direct the club’s management to get to work early and sign quality players to compliment what they have in ground in order to be a league contender.
“A stitch in time they said saves nine, good planning and early preparation is the antidote to failure, enough is enough to fire brigade approach.
“The team started very late last season and we all knew the consequences, it’s high time they reclaimed their rightful place among its peers.”
“Sunshine Stars used to be an entertaining team that ranked among the best four in the country, we are also appealing to the state government to do the needful for the team to be fortified.
“If the government still want to sell the club they should let us know, as we speak, we don’t even know who and who is in charge of the team, less than a month to new season, no team on ground, we heard some of the players that played last season have been released while some stay. We want to know who is in charge of the team, so that we know who and who to praise for their success and criticize if it’s otherwise”.
“Sunshine Stars are playing in a professional league and not amateur league, so they should gather themselves together early and roll out their plans .
“Other clubs have been playing pre-season matches to put their team in shape ahead of new season, we are eager to be reading news of new signings and other progress of the club.”
