Accidents claim four in Akure, Ogun

Two persons yesterday lost their lives when a Rav 4 Jeep crushed them to death along Hospital road in Akure, Ondo State capital.
The Hope Metro gathered that the deceased, who were passengers on motorcycle died instantly, after the driver of the Rav 4 Jeep hit them from the rear.
The motorcyclist was, however, lucky as he only sustained injuries and was quickly rushed to Akure Specialist hospital for treatment.
The accident caused traffic jam in the area for several hours before the men of Federal Road Safety Corps, FRSC, and men of the Nigerian Police arrived at the scene trying to control traffic and consequently took the remains of two the deceased persons to the mortuary.
Eyewitnesses told our correspondent that the driver of the car, a woman and learner was on top speed and drove reckless and crushed the bike with carried two passengers at the back.
“The woman who drove the car was reckless and on top speed. In fact, the accident occurred beside bell casket along Oke, Isegun, hospital road
“The woman was reckless and hit the innocent motorcyclist man carrying two passengers from the back.
The Okada man was lucky to survive the unfortunate accident while the duo that he carried were not lucky and they died instantly,” he stated.
A policeman who confirmed the story described the accident as unfortunate, adding that the woman who drove the vehicle was not careful.
He said it would have been avoidable accident if the driver was not speeding she could apply break when she lost control and hit the Okada from behind.
He, however appealed to road users to obey all necessary rules of driving especially driving on intra- state roads.
In a similar incident, two persons have reportedly died on Saturday morning when a Toyota Sienna car rammed into some commuters at Kudigbe, towards Arigbajo, on the Lagos-Abeokuta highway.
Seven other persons were said to have sustained varying degrees of injuries as a result of the road traffic crash.
Mr Babatunde Akinbiyi, spokesperson, Ogun Traffic Compliance and Enforcement Corps (TRACE) confirmed the incident to newsmen in Abeokuta.
Akinbiyi explained that the accident occurred at 7:32am, saying that, the sienna marked KRD 900 GV, also hit a brown Ford car, marked AAB 439 XB and a yellow tricycle, with number AKM 791 VP.
He said, ” The accident was caused by excessive speeding and loss of control on the part of the Toyota Sienna driver.”
The Trace spokesman noted that the accident involved 10 people, which comprised five males and five females.
“According to an eyewitness, the Toyota Sienna driver was on top speed and in his attempt to avoid a pot hole, lost control and RAM into commuters by the road side waiting to board a bus to their destinations.
“In the process, two persons died, a minor (whose mother was alive) and an old man, while seven other commuters were injured, with one person escaping unhurt.
“The driver of the toyota sienna has been arrested and taken to Itori Divisional Police Station, with the vehicles involved in the crash,” he said.
Akinbiyi added that the injured were taken to General Hospital, Ifo while the deceased were deposited at the morgue of the same hospital.
He stated that the Corp Commander of TRACE, Seni Ogunyemi, has admonished drivers to regulate their speed and avoid excessive speeding.
”Traders should stop displaying their wares on the road and commuters should always stand at designated bus-stops to board vehicles to their destinations,” he said.
