Olusegun Agagu University of Science and Technology, OAUSTECH, Okitipupa, in Wednesday matriculated 4,500 new students who have fulfilled all requirements that qualified them as bonafide students of the institution for the 2025/2026 academi session.
The Vice-Chancellor, Professir Temi Ologunorisa advised newly admitted students of the university to conduct themselves properly and exhibit good character throughout their stay in the institution.
The VC gave the admonition on Wednesday in an address he delivered during the matriculation ceremony.
Professor Ologunorisa said the need for students to be morally upright had become necessary for them to make positive contributions to the nation and provide the right leadership for future generations.
Congratulating the students, parents and guardians for choosing the institution as the right place to acquire knowledge and skills to compete favourably with graduates of other institutions after the completion of their studies, he described OAUSTECH as a leading university in Nigeria.
He said, “This university is renowned for being foremost among universities in Nigeria. It was mandated to provide a constant flow of trained and qualified graduates who can work in any organisation in the world.
“Know why you are here, obey the rules and regulations, be law-abiding, and remember the matriculation oath you have signed.”
Advising the students to pay more attention to their studies, the university helmsman also enjoined them to build good relationships with one another and their host communities, as well as with lecturers and staff of the institution.
He charged the students to make meaningful contributions to the actualisation of the university’s vision through good initiatives, strong academic performance and notable achievements, noting that such efforts would go a long way in fulfilling the purpose for which the institution was established.
Professor Ologunorisa sought the cooperation of the students and assured them that the management would work assiduously to ensure the institution becomes internationally relevant through the provision of infrastructure, human capital development and the introduction of modern ideas in line with global best practices.
Reminding the students of the need to be conscious of their responsibility as good ambassadors of the institution in protecting its image, the Vice-Chancellor warned them to shun negative tendencies such as cultism, examination malpractice, disobedience to constituted authority, indecency and immorality.
The matriculation ceremony, held at the university auditorium, was attended by principal officers and members of management, as well as parents and guardians of the students.
The highlight of the event was the administration of the matriculation oath on the students by the Registrar of the institution, Mr. Abiodun Okunniga.
