Osun state government has stressed the need for residents and non residents to make tolerance a watchword at all times.
Describing tolerance as an age-old virtue, Commissioner for Information and Civic Orientation, Mrs Funke Egbemode made this known while speaking with journalists in her office in commemoration of the year 2021 International Day of Tolerance
Egbemode said that irrespective of tribe, race, religious and political differences, the indispensability of tolerance as one of the key indices of peace and development in any society as exemplified by the person and administration of Mr Gboyega Oyetola cannot be overemphasized.
She noted with satisfaction that in the last three years of the present administration, tolerance of one another in views, cultures, traditions, beliefs, social and political ideologies among the people of the state has been the order of the day.
Egbemode who described the theme as apt and congruent with the policy thrust of Oyetola-led government in Osun, reaffirmed its commitment and resolve not to be found wanting in making tolerance a sing song on the lips of all and sundry in the state.
To further entrench this ideal which she said Mr Oyetola as the state helmsman is known for, the Commissioner urged the people of the state to continue to reciprocate it by being partners in progress especially in discarding things that divide rather than unite the people of Osun.
Intolerance according to her is and should be seen and regarded as a misnomer in any civilized and organised setting.
Egbemode stated tolerance as one of the inherent virtues in the person and personality of the governor and maintained that the goals and internationally acclaimed objectives of the theme of this years celebration will continue to hold sway for the overall objective of making Osun sustain its known fame and accolade as the state of the virtue.
It will be recalled that every November 16 is annually set aside globally to celebrate the essence of instilling tolerance in people to achieve lasting peace and harmony between individuals, families, states,nations and the larger world in general.
