Owolewa becomes first Nigerian to win US Congress election
The Omu-Aran community was agog on Sunday as a special thanksgiving was held in honour of Mr Ade Owolewa, the first Nigerian to win election into US congress for Columbia District.
Hundreds of well wishers including the family of Mr Ayo Ahmed Owolewa, father of the Congress man and the large and wealthy Owolewa family offered prayers at their family compound, Igangu.
The prayer led by the Chief Imam of Omu-Aran, Alhaji Sadiq Alalobo offered prayers for more success for the Owolewas and Omu-Aran community in general.
The Olomu of Omu-Aran, Oba Abdulraheem Adeoti who was represented at the event by the Eesa of Omu-Aran, High Chief Jide Adebayo expressed joy for the honour which the election of the congress man has brought to the community.
A spokesman of the Owolewa family, Alhaji Funso Owolewa thanked Allah that the Owolewas who are noted for breaking new grounds has recorded another resounding first in the community and in the country.
Adeoye Owolewa, 31, first Nigerian to be elected into the United States congress who ran under the umbrella of the Democratic Party holds a Doctorate in Pharmacy.
