Residents of Akure, the Ondo state capital have appealed to the Benin Electricity Distribution Company to work on the erratic supply of power which is affecting domestic activities and businesses.
They called on the government at all levels and power distribution companies to synergize and find a lasting solution to the unstable power supply in the Country.
Power generation and distribution have remained perennial problems in Nigeria, stifling the Country’s industrial growth and limiting commercial ventures’ expansion.
Report shows that between 2010 and 2020, electrification proceeded slowly in Nigeria while population growth outpaced the gains.
A shop owner in Akure metropolis, ,Titilayo Owolabi said power supply has not been stable which has really affected her business.
As for Ayomikun Kilani and Johnson Adebayo, they have been using generators to power their tools to stay in business due to unstable power supply.
According to them, unstable power supply constitutes a major constraint to the industrial sector.
They however emphasized the need for government to intervene and find a lasting solution in the interest of the citizenry.
An industrialist, Mr. Biodun Adegbola said SMEs were unable to produce in large quantities and quality due to poor sales hence low level of profitability.
An environmental expert, Adedotun Adetola affirmed that not “the constant use of generators that emits fumes into the atmosphere increases air pollution which causes climate change and human health”.
