Contrary to speculation, no candidates among the 18 vying to occupy the vacant stool of the Olowo of Owo has been shortlisted.
The clarification was made in Owo yesterday by spokesman of the Council of Senior Omolowos, Chief Jamiu Ekungba.
Ekungba described the media report which claimed that five candidates have been shortlisted as untrue.
He assured that the selection process will be transparent and in the presence of Owo local government officials, security agents and the press.
Ekungba who spoke exclusively with The Hope said the traditional process of consultations to choose the next Olowo of Owo was on going.
He explained that the Senior Omolowos will refrain from anything that will erode the norms and customs of Owo people in picking the next king.
On the selection process, Ekungba said two of the 18 princes who signified their interest in the vacant stool did not show up for the interview.
Some newspapers (not The Hope) had reported that five candidates, two each from the Ogunoye, Olagbegi dynasty and one from Ajike had been shortlisted after the oral interview.
