A popular trader in Iyemero-Ekiti, Alhaja Nusirat Saliu, who was abducted by yet to be identified kidnappers has regained her freedom.

A family source who spoke with The Hope Metro in Ado-Ekiti on Tuesday said the kidnappers had earlier on Monday morning contacted the family through a telephone line and demanded for N6 million for her release .

He disclosed that the family paid huge amount of money to the kidnappers before the 63-year-old woman could regained her freedom.

“I cannot disclose the amount paid for now. But all what I want to tell you is that the family paid for the release of the victim,”he said.

He explained that the victim, who is currently recuperating at a medical facility in the state would soon reunite with the family.

It will be recalled that gun wielding kidnappers had on Saturday night invaded the community and abducted the popular trader.

The Hope Metro had reported that after the abduction, the daredevil kidnappers macheted a farmer in the head.

An eyewitness said the abductors, numbering five, who all brandished AK 47 rifles, had had a pleasurable time at a section of the town pretending to be buyers and used the opportunity to study the woman’s movement before they struck.

Contacted, the Police Public Relations Officer of the State Command, Mr Sunday Abutu, confirmed the release of the business woman.

He said the police in conjunction with other security agencies had worked assiduously before the victim could regain her freedom.

The police spokeperson said he was not aware of any ransom alleged to have been paid by members of the family, noted that the police had earlier promised to rescue the victim without any hitch.
