Almajiris: Ondo goes tough on drivers

Ondo State government has threatened to impound any vehicle that brings illegal immigrants into the state.
Senior Special Assistance to the state governor, Dr. Doyin Odewale made the disclosure while reacting to influx of people into the state.
Odebowale expressed regret that despite government’s measure at curtailing movement of people into the state, people still gain entrance, saying that any vehicle caught, would henceforth be impounded.
He changed members of the public to be vigilant and report any vehicle carrying people into the state to the appropriate authority.
This is coming as the patrol team of the state Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC), has intercept a truck conveying 13 male youth from outside the state into Akure the capital of Ondo State.
The Hope Metro gathered that the team promptly responded to the clarion call of a sensitive member of the public and intercepted the truck AAA261XZ at FUTA South gate junction.
it would be recalled that the Ondo State taskforce on COVID-19 arrested and returned about 20 Almajiris in Akure who came from Sokoto and Kano states during the week.
FRSC, Head of Operations in the state, Mr Olusegun Ogungbemide, made this known in a statement signed by the state Sector Commander, Mr Rotimi Adeleye.
Adeleye explained that the patrol team of the command promptly responded to the call and intercepted the vehicle at FUTA South gate junction Akure on Saturday morning.
“Today Saturday, our patrol team intercepted a truck conveying about 13 male youth from outside the state into Akure,”he said.
The driver of the vehicle reportedly claimed to have picked the boys suspected to be of Northern extract on his way from Ibadan.
The state Police Public Relations Officer, ASP Tee-Leo Ikoro, said the police had positioned his men in all the entry and exit points and wondered where and how the Amajiris are invading the state despite tight security at the borders .
He assured the police will continue to monitor it’s men posted to various boarders and ensure they are doing the right thing.
