Asaniyan, others bag Excellence Awards

In recognition of their contributions to the society in their chosen careers, nine indigenes of Ondo State were on Sunday honoured with various awards.
Among the people conferred with the award was the Permanent Secretary of the Ondo State Ministry of Education, Science and Technology, Revd Akin Asaniyan.
Others are : Chairman of Ifedore Local Government, Engr Alex Oladimeji, Mrs Bukola Bardi of Radio Nigeria, Mr Lanre Abiodun ,Mr Ogundeji Adebowale, Miss Ayo Fatokun and others.
Asaniyan who bagged the Southwest Distinguished Public Service Award of the year described it as an impetus to do more noting that it is not over and that there are still a lot of grounds to cover.
While expressing his happiness for the recognition, Asaniyan returned the glory to God adding that nobody can achieve anything without God’s support.
Chairman of the occasion, Minister of state for Niger Delta, Senator Omotayo Alasoadura congratulated the awardees.
Alasoadura who was represented by Kola Olasehinde said the awardees were rightly selected and chargedthem not to rest on their oars
Guest Speaker at the event, Dr Kehinde Temikotan who spoke on solution to power problem in Nigeria said that the main problem of the sector is poor funding.
According to him, the four stages of generation, distribution, transmission and marketing of power in Nigeria are bedeviled by obsolete equipment, vandalism, energy theft among others and should be overhauled if power problem will be solved in Nigeria.
Temikotan who said that distribution companies in Nigeria sell below the cost price while government subsidises with billions of naira called on government to stop subsidising, but should fix power and make people pay for what they consume.
He suggested that government could source fund from the world bank since it requires huge amount of money.
He also suggested that people can form cooperatives, build their system, take the necessary licence, distribute and sell power to the people at a good price.
Organiser of award and publisher of Southwest Herald Magazine, Oluwatayo Adu stated that the annual programme was organised to make suggestions and contributions to the problems confronting the nation.
