Cleric, soldier son robbed at gunpoint

A 70year-old Anglican cleric, Rev Cannon Foluso of the Danian Marian Memorial Anglican Church, Ikun Akoko was  robbed at gun point by armed robbers who operated on the Ikun/Oba road.

According to a source, the 70-year-old Reverend Canon was robbed along with his Nigerian Army son as they were dispossessed of N92,000.00  cash with other valuables worth several thousands of naira.

In another development, the 60-year-old, Mrs Banji Ademuyiwa who was kidnapped along Oba/Ikun road on the New year eve was released yesterday after the payment of N60,000.00 ransom.

The Divisional Police Officer for Oba Akoko Police Division, SP Ade Akinola who confirmed the development said investigation was  on.

Ikun community has  been involved in the matter because the serving army sergeant, son of the cleric was matchetted during the robbery attack and rushed to Federal Medical Centre, Owo for medical attention.

There has been a rise in the wave of criminal activities by armed robbers and kidnappers along Ago Ajayi/Oba Akoko axis and Oba to Ikun Akoko roads recently.

It will be recalled that the wife of Orunja of Odigbo Kingdom, her two children  and her driver were abducted some few weeks  agoalong the axis.

The Minority Leader of the Ondo State House of Assembly, Rasheed Elegbeleye also narrowly escaped being kidnapped on the Owo/Ikare road at  the same period.

Meanwhile, police patrols have  been increased in the area to reinforce security with the joint efforts of the vigilante and other security agents .

Commenting on the issue, the Special Assistant to the Ondo State Governor on Fulani and Hausa Matters,  Alhaji Bala Umar said that instructions were given to genuine Fulani herdsmen in the forest and farmers to report anybody with suspected movement to the nearest police station.

Bala who said kidnappers in the forest are not ghosts, disclosed that the state government is doing a lot to nip the menace in the bud  as Amotekun security outfit is to be launched .
