The All Progressives Congress, APC, factional chairman in Ifelodun Local Government Area of Osun State, Solomon Alatayo, and four others have been remanded by an Osogbo Magistrate’s Court for attempted murder and membership of an unlawful society.

Others remanded are; Akinlade Abayomi, 38, Sodiq Atitebi, 25, Azeez Adejimi, 28 and Siju Oyewumi, 68.

The accused persons committed the offence on Tuesday, February 1, around 1.45pm in Ikirun.

The police prosecutor told the court that the accused persons with others at large attempted to kill one Fatai Asimiyu.

He said they inflicted machete cuts on him and thereby engaged in act that constituted breach of the public peace.

The offences committed contravene Sections 516, 320 (1) and 249 (d) of the Criminal Code Cap. 34 Vol. II Laws of Osun State Nigeria 2002.

The accused persons, however, pleaded not guilty to the three-counts,  while their lawyer, Olatunbosun Oladipupo, urged the court to admit them to bail.

But the prosecutor opposed the bail application of the defence, as others involved in the crime had not been arrested.

He insisted that releasing the accused persons might jeopardise the matter.

In his ruling, Magistrate Asimiyu Adebayo, remanded the accused persons in Ilesa Correctional Centre and adjourned the case till February 23, 2022, for ruling on bail application.
