Ekiti police arrest 15 suspected armed robbers, recover arms

The Ekiti State Police Command said it has arrested 15 suspected armed robbers terrorizing the state and also recovered arms from them.
According to the command, the suspects who are drug dealers and members of a cult group, were apprehended by the operatives of the command at Atikankan area of Ado-Ekiti, during an operation in the area.
The Public Relations Officer of the command, Mr Sunday Abutu, in a release signed on behalf of the State Commissioner of Police, said the arrest is part of the activities of the command to rid the state of criminal elements.
He explained that the suspects who are currently detained at the Command’s headquarters, Ado-Ekiti, were fished out from their hideouts at Atikankan and various parts of Ado, the capital of Ekiti State.
According to him, “during an operation carried out by the operatives of the Rapid Response Squad (RRS), 15 suspected drug dealers, armed robbers and cultists were arrested.
He identified them as Musa Madaki, 35, Abdullahi Umar, 25, Shola Adeyemi, 43, Hawalu Ali, 45, Usman Amisu ,30, Haruna Usman, 20, Yanusa Abubakar, 25, Usman Lawali, 20, and Ajayi Opeyemi, 20.
Others are; Toheeb Isa, 21, Ajiboye Michael, 19, Kayode Yinka, 20, Taiwo Michael ,20, Jimoh Zarheal, 19, and David Henry, 36.
Items recovered from the suspects include, two locally made single barrel guns, two battle axes, two locally made pistols, and some wraps of weeds suspected to be Indian hemp
Abutu said the suspects confessed to be members of an armed robbery gang, who deal in illicit drug and that they belong to a cult group..
He assured that they would be arraigned accordingly as soon as investigation was concluded.
