Ekiti police nab eight over murder, unlawful possession of arms

Ekiti State Police Command on Tuesday confirmed the arrest of eight persons in connection with the case of robbery, murder and unlawful possession of arms and ammunition.
According to the Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO) of the command , Mr. Sunday Abutu, ASP, the suspects were arrested in various parts of Ondo, Ekiti and Osun States by the operatives of the Rapid Response Squad (RRS) attached to the Ekiti State Police Command.
The spokesperson gave the names of the suspects as Tope Falau, Dele Obamoyegun, Ibrahim Azeez, Ojo Tosin, Afolabi Gbenga, Sani Mohammed, Bamidele Abiodun and Dare Agbelusi.
The PPRO said the leader of the gang, Tope Falau , was arrested at a black spot along Stadium road in Akure, by members of the RRS, following a tip-off.
Items recovered from the suspects on the spot include; one cut to size single barrel gun, two live cartridges, one unregistered motorcycle believed to have been stolen and a shirt stained with blood.
Falua was said to have confessed to be the leader of the armed robbery gang that attacked Mango Restaurant, Ido-Ekiti, in Ido/Osin local government area of Ekiti State, where one Sunday Akinlade was shot dead.
The suspect was also said to have mentioned Dele Obamoyegun and Ojo Sunkanmi, who had earlier been arrested by the police in Ekiti.
He also led the operatives of the RRS team to the compound of one Ibrahim Azeez of the Federal College of Agriculture, Akure, who was arrested while another cut to size single barrel gun was recovered from him.
The police said further efforts and investigation intensified by the operatives led to the arrest of two accomplices; Afolabi Gbenga in Akure and one Sani Mohhammad in Ilesa, Osun State
Further investigations by the police also led to the arrest of one Bamidele Abiodun, who was alleged of supplying ammunition to the gang.
More fact findings by the police also revealed that Abiodun initiated and sponsored the killing of Sunday Akinlade and has been aiding the gang in their criminal activities.
The police said the eight suspects, currently being detained at the Ekiti State police Command in Ado-Ekiti are assisting the police on further investigations about the gang.
The suspects, it was learnt, would be arraigned in court as soon as investigation is completed on the matter.
