Ekiti vaccinates 10,000 residents

The Government of Ekiti State at the weekend announced that it has crossed the 10,000 milestone in the first week of the rollout of the state’s COVID-19 vaccination campaign.
The Governor of the state, Dr Kayode Fayemi, had in the penultimate week flagged off the exercise, after which the Ekiti State Ministry of Health and Human Services rolled out the mass campaign of the vaccination across the 16 local government areas of the state.
In a release by the Chief Press Secretary to the Governor, Mr Yinka Oyebode, said the state’s medical officials have administered 10,354 first doses of the Oxford Astra Zeneca vaccines.
According to him, the breakdown of the statistics shows that 2,547 persons were vaccinated in Ado local government, 363 in Efon, 604 in Ekiti East 763 Ekiti South-West and 746 in Ekiti West local government.
Other local governments mentioned by the Governor were , 307 in Emure, 450 in Gbonyin , 1056 in Ido/Osi, 414 in Ijero, 523 in Ikere , 578, while, 265 Ikole local government, Ilejemeje, 650 in Irepodun/Ifelodun 362 in Ise/Orun , 270 in Moba and 456 in Oye LGA.
“This milestone reached in a short time shows that the vaccine has been well received by members of the public. A large and growing number of people have also indicated interest in taking the vaccine.
” We are building on this momentum by strengthening the capacity of our health systems to provide more coverage and protect our people against the COVID-19 virus,”
Similarly, the state’s Commissioner for Health and Human Services, Dr. Oyebanji Filani, reported that the vaccines have been well tolerated by all the recipients, with only one person requiring observation.
“The vaccination campaign is designed in phases to ensure equitable access across the entire state, while prioritising our frontline health workers. Currently, 4,701 health workers and 4,015 other frontline staff have been vaccinated” he stated.
