Father, 98, son, arraigned for assault

The Ondo State Police Command has dragged a 98-year-old man, Adejuwon Omoniyi and his son, Michael Omoniyi, 52, before an Akure Magistrate’s Court over alleged assault and breach of peace.
The duo were arraigned alongside one Dupe Abayomi, 62, on three counts bordering on assault, breach of peace, forcible entry and malicious damage.
The prosecutor, Inspector Martins Olowofeso, told the court that the accused persons committed the offence sometimes in April, 2022, at about 1:00 pm, at Odo Community Akure.
According to the prosecutor, the defendants forcibly entered and maliciously damaged the property of Fasua Banjo.
He added that the accused persons conducted themselves in a manner likely to cause a breach of peace.
He also said the defendants willfully and unlawfully destroyed building foundation valued at N400,000, belonging to one Olarewaju Adigo.
The offences contravene Sections 516, 81, 451 of the Criminal Code, Cap. 37 Volume 1 Laws of Ondo State Nigeria, 2006.
The defendants pleaded not guilty to the allegations slammed against them.
Messr G.O. Bernard, lawyer for the defendants, prayed the court to admit his clients to bail in most liberal terms.
Ruling on the bail application, the presiding Magistrate, R.A Olumilua, granted the accused persons bail in the sum of N200,000, with one surety each in like sum.
