Govt evacuates refuse on Akure streets

The heaps of dirt which littered some major areas such as Oba Adesida road, Arakale road down to NEPA round about among several other places, have been evacuated, hence returning the state capital to a clean look.
When The Hope moved round Akure metropolis yesterday, all the popular roads have been cleared of the debris by men of the State Waste Management Agency
It was gathered that the men were evacuating the debris round the clock to ensure speedy completion
Speaking with The Hope in an interview in his office, Permanent Secretary, Ondo State Waste Management Authority, Engr. Ajibola Ogidan stated that government has put in place measures to ensure that the state becomes clean in the new year.
He explained that the heaps of dirt across the state were gradually removed, saying “we have started packing the wastes.
The Perm Sec who noted that wastes are generated on daily basis, said the authority has all hands on deck to ensure that proper waste collection and transportation is achieved in order to ensure a cleaner state in the new year.
However, he charged the people on the appropriate use of waste bins and added that they should embrace proper waste management.
In a chat with The Hope, an artisan, Mr Adeyemi Ola commended government efforts at evacuating the wastes especially along the popular Oba Adesida road.
According to him, the wastes if unattended to may lead to disease outbreak in the state and charged government to always ensure proper and adequate waste collection especially along major roads in the state.
A trader who simply identified herself as mummy Chisom also gave kudos to government and also advised that it gives priority to waste collection in the state noting that the scenario in the last few days has been an eyesore in the state capital.
A cosmetic trader and an Igbo man who does not wants his name in print said that the heaps of waste prevented him from displaying his wares in the last few days and commended government for coming to his rescue by removing the wastes in the market.
