Man, 40, arraigned for conspiracy, kidnap

A 40 -year-old man, Zafaru Isah has been arrianged before an Akure Magistrate’s court sitting at Oke -Eda, in the Akure magisterial district, over alleged conspiracy and kidnapping.

The defendant who is now facing two count charge bothering on conspiracy and kidnapping was said to have committed the offence on August 12, 2018 at about 2:30pm along Iju/lkere-Ekiti road, Iju, Ondo state, in Ondo magisterial district.

 The charge sheet read in part, “That you Zafaru Isah on the same time, and place and the aforementioned district did allow one Pereli Zafaru and one Rana Zafaru which you know that they are kidnappers to stay out for police arrest and thereby committed the offence contrary to and punishable under section 519 of the criminal code, cap37 vol 1 laws of Ondo state of Nigeria 2006”.

The defendant pleaded not guilty to the charge when it was read to him.

The defence counsel, Mr Isaac Adubazi, urged the court to grant the defendant bail in the most liberal term.

The prosecuting officer, Mr Suleiman Abdulateef demanded that the court should adjourn the case due to the absent of the 5 witness, he further requested that the court should give him time to get in touch with the witnesses.

In his ruling, the presiding judge, Mrs Victoria Bob-manuel, granted the defendant bail in sum of N100,000 with one surety in like sum. The surety she said must be a resident within the jurisdiction of the court and the surety must present his national passport and address to the court.

The case was adjourned till  October 3rd, 2019 for further hearings.
