ODSG lauds Naval base upgrade
For the umpteenth time, Ondo State government has raised its voice loud why it is desirous of proposing a port in the state.
Apart from promoting commerce, the proposed port would bring relief to the maritime sector in the country.
The state will therefore do anything to assist every step to bring the port into fruition.
Ondo State governor, Arakunrin Oluwarotimi Akeredolu SAN stated this in Akure while receiving the Flag Officer, Commanding Western Naval Command, Real Admiral Obed Ngalabak in his office.
Akeredolu said it was in the light of a port expectation that he welcomed the upgrade of the forward operating Base of the Nigerian Navy in Igbokoda to a brigade status.
The governor said though the upgrade was long overdue, promised to assist the navy to over come teething challenges.
Earlier, the Flag Officer had solicited for the help of the government on the expansion of its jetty to accommodate the activities of the new status.
Rear Adniral Ngalabak said the upgrade would move the base from a personnel strength of 150 to 1000 which would empower it to frontally combat all maritime crimes.
