ODSWMA secures court order, seals off Shoprite, others

The Ondo State Government Waste Management Authority has secured a court order to seal off Shoprite located along Igbatoro road, Akure the state capital.
It will be recalled that the state government through its Waste Management Authority (ODSWMA) shut down more popular buildings within Akure, metropolis for their unsanitary and unhygienic practices.
The state Waste Management sealed Shoprite on Igbatoro road in Akure and the neighborhood market at NEPA in Akure.
Speaking with The Hope Metro, the Senior Special Assistant to the Governor on Security Matters, Alhaji Jimoh Dojumo described the environment of Shoprite as ‘an eyesore’
He said “I visited the place. The entire area was dirty and untidy and hence necessitated the sealing off the place by the authority of the Agency led byRev. (Mrs) Ayo Adeyemo,
According to him, owners of the affected facilities violated environmental laws and failed to comply with the laid down hygienic practices, especially during the Era of COVID 19 pandemic.
He disclosed that Ondo State Waste Management Authority (ODSWMA) had last week sealed off five popular buildings within Akure for unsanitary and unhygienic practices.
The buildings were; NAO Supermarkets; Olukayode building; Arowolo Bookshop, all on Oba Adesida Road; Rainbow Furniture at Bye-pass junction, and Salon Mega store along Isikan/Cathedral axis.
He said people should learn how to tidy their environment clean at all times even without anybody telling them to do so.
One of the workers of Shoprite who spoke with The Hope Metro under the condition of anonymity said, fund was made available to clean up the surroundings, but that the company had failed to carry out its duties, hence allowed the state government to seal off the place.
According him, ” I learnt that there is already court order which has sealed the place. This has affected the staff of the Shoprite who are now staying at home.
” I don’t know how long I am staying at home because Bola Komo and others that sealed since over a month had remain sealed.
He, however appealed with the state Government to consider some workers at the place to reopen it soon for overall interest of them, he lamented.
