Ondo carpenters, furniture union to elect state executives

All is set for members of Carpenters and Furniture Makers Progressive Union of Ondo State to elect new executive members that will pilot the affairs of the union for the next four years.

Speaking at the State meeting held in Akure on Thursday, The Electoral Chairman of the Union, Comrade Awobusuyi Albert told The Hope that the electoral body has put everything in place to ensure a smooth and hitch-free transition of power to new administration.

Albert highlighted some of the elective positions in the union as President, Vice President, Secretary, PRO, Ex-officio, Auditor, Publicity Secretary and Police, among others.

He said eligible members interested in the positions have obtained expression forms and that campaigned across the 18 local government areas have commenced.

The Electoral Chairman said the election would hold in July, subject to the approval of the State government as the current administration of the union ends August 15.

“They (aspirants) have started their campaign now. After the campaign, we allocate a venue for the election. The election will be secret-ballot system.

“The aspirants will go to the 18 local government areas of the state for their campaign. The local government executives will vote the state executives.

 “In each local government, we have at least 15 eligible voters to represent each LGA. We have told them to ensure that once they get to any local government, they should assess the faces very well and when it is time for election, they will know those eligible to vote,” he stated.

Being a second term electoral chairman, he said the electoral body was ready to conduct a seamless election for the union.

As part of measures to avoid any infraction before, during and after the election, Albert said aspirants would sign a peace agreement before the election date.

Albert advised the aspirants to avoid campaign of calumny and inciting members to violence, charging them to vote for those they know would to make the union a progressive one.

Also, the Chairman, Board of Trustees of the union, Comrade Isiaka Kilani said the union will continue to be a progressive one, noting that the election was needed to ensure seamless transmission of power every four years.

While stating that the BOT ensures the activities of the union, including election, are properly carried out, he said the members and the BOT are ready for the election, as “everything is now in the hands of the electoral body”.

He advised members and the aspirants to avoid violence and any acts or statements that could disrupt the peace and accord of the union, adding that the results of the election to be announced by the electoral body should be accepted.
