T he Proprietor of Hope Basketball Academy, Oluwatosin Olajubutu has disclosed that the much awaited Championship tagged ‘play against drug abuse’ will educate the youths on the dangers in drugs and substance abuse.

Olajubutu said he identified sports as the best avenue to advocate the need to abstain from drug abuse among the youths, especially teenagers.

“What we are doing is to develop talents and educating them on the dangers in drugs abuse.”

The proprietor added that there was need for all and sundry to join hands in campaign against drugs abuse among the teenagers.

Olajubutu further stated that the competition would dunk off between April 24 and end May 1, this year at the indoor hall of the Ondo State Sports Complex,Akure.

According to him, “It is not about winning at all cost but to pass a strong message and debrief youth against drugs abuse.

“The Championship is targeted at the female and male Basketball players under 17years in the South west states.

“The current statistics have shown that the number of teenagers at psychiatric hospitals is increasing on a daily basis as a result of drug abuse”, he stated.

Olajubu explained that combining sports with advocacy would bring a lot of the teenagers out of the menace. More awareness, knowledge about drug abuse could easily be created.
