The Ondo State Governor, Arakunrin Oluwarotimi Akeredolu, SAN, has charged students and youths in the state to be more serious with their endeavours.

The Governor, gave the charge at the inauguration ceremony for the 2018/2019 newly elected members of the Students Union Government of Rufus Giwa Polytechnic,Owo.

Akeredolu, who was represented by his Special Adviser on Public and Intergovernmental Relation, Mrs. Bunmi Ademosu, the governor urged youths and students on the need to rise up to their responsibilities as future leaders and make themselves  role models for others to follow.

He told them to shun thuggery, cultism and radicalism, noting that violence is destructive to life.

“Radicalism does not take one far, but destroys”, he advised

The Governor, who tasked the students of the institution to face their studies noted that it is through diligence and hard-work that they can add value to lives.

While emphasising on hard work as a key to success, he called on them to take entrepreneurship serious as a means to change ones life for better, adding that rather than  depending on government to give them job after graduating, they should take the advantage of the various skills acquisition programmes of the state government.

“You must know the purpose for which you are in school and not allow yourselves to be used for selfish ends” “he charged.

Earlier, the Rector, Rufus Giwa Polytechnic, Owo, Engr.  Ologunnagba described the election as a free, fair and credible exercise that was devoid of acrimony and ill-feelings.

This encouraging development, he said underscores the resolve of the students to keep conducting themselves in a responsible manner that effectively lubricates the institution’s image.

The Rector, advised the new leaders of the students union to be magnanimous in victory by accommodating their co-contestants in the scheme of things

He said with the sustained support of the state government through the provision of resources, the institution will continue to strive at ensuring peace for suitable academic calendar.

Also, the President, Students Union Government of the institution, Comrade James Akeju, promised the readiness of the members of the union to partner with the school management to enhance students welfare.

He said his administration will enhance further the security of lives and properties of students in the institution.
