The Standard Organisation of Nigeria (SON) has confiscated  fake electrical cables and wires worth N3.5million in Osun State.

The Hope gathered that the substandard cables and wires were confiscated during a raid of major electrical markets in Osogbo by SON officials.

Some electrical shops,  whose owners fled after sighting SON officials were also sealed.

Speaking after the raid, the SON State Coordinator, Mr Jerome Umoru, said the raid of the electrical markets was aimed at getting rid of substandard cables and wires in the markets.

Umoru, who noted that substandard electric cables and wires posed grave danger of heating up which could easily lead to fire outbreaks, said SON would not relent on its mandate of ensuring quality products in the markets.

He said the confiscated cables and wires would be destroyed.

He said that SON would not relent until it prosecutes  electrical dealers, who were determined to flood the markets with substandard products.

Umoru said SON enforcement teams would continue to burst dubious importers and sellers who deals substandard cables and wires.

He added that substandard cables and wires could lead to fire outbreak, electrical disruption and electrocution.

Umoru, however, warned dealers in electrical cables to avoid sale of the product or risk  continued seizure by SON.
