The National Council on Sports (NCS) has commended Governor Abdullahi Sule and the Nasarawa State Ministry of Youth and Sports Development for taking proactive steps and evolving policies and programmes capable of enhancing youth and sports development in the State.
In a Communique` after the 22nd National Council On Sports Meeting commended Nasarawa State for its laudable programmes and policies aimed at youth and sports development.
Part of the Communique` which was signed by the Youth and Sports Minister, Sunday Dare, Chairman of the National Council On Sports, reads:
“Council noted and commended Nasarawa state and Niger State Governments for the various sports and youth development initiatives in the States.”
It was also gathered that Stakeholders at the Council meeting, applauded the maturity and dexterity of the youth of Nasarawa State for not joining the recent nationwide #EndSARS protests and subsequent looting spree, which is still generating global condemnation.
The Nasarawa delegation to the four days meeting in Asaba, had told stakeholders at the meeting that the State Government had evolved several administrative policies and legal frameworks, aimed at promoting youth and sports development, as well as giving youth a voice within the polity, and rewarding excellence in sports through the Sports Development Fund Bill.
The delegation listed some of the areas where the State Government had intervened to the advantage of the youth and sports development to include job creation, quality education, empowerment and entrepreneurship programmes, and revealed that Nasarawa was the only State in the country that didn’t participate in the #EndSARS protest as well as the looting of Government’s and private properties that later followed up.
It’s the first time in the history of the Council that Nasarawa State was mentioned for commendation, which speaks of better days ahead for the young, solid minerals’ State.
