Sunshine Stars Coach, Deji Ayeni has said with with the positive changes in the team, there is hope of getting out of relegation zone.
Ayeni stated this after his side stunned Wikki Tourits 1-0 at the Ondo State Sports Complex Akure in the Week 30 of Nigeria Professional Football League (NPFL).
He added that the team will continue to approach every match as they come.
He urged all the stakeholders to continue to support the team.
The eletad coach noted that the players have lost many things like winning mentality, self confidence, team unity which he said the crew have been able to restore.
“I can tell you that the players have been getting their winning mentality back, the self confidence is back, if you watch the match against Kwara United and against Wikki Tourits you will see that we are progressing gradually.
“Nevertheless, we are going to work on our team tactics and attacking play ,so that we will be able to convert our chances, we dominated against Kwara United only that the goal did not come and you can see we created a lot of chances, we will get it right,” he said.
His counterpart, Wikki Tourits coach, Usman Abd’ Allah said they will go back home and work on their tactics and concentrate on their next home game.
He adds: “Today is not our day, we will look elsewhere to get our point,” he added.
Meanwhile Sunshine Stars have secured a third home win on the bounce by beating Wikki Tourists 1-0 in Akure.
Fuad Ekelojuoti’s fourth goal of the season settled matters for the Akure Landlords, as the team’s survival bid under coach Deji Ayeni received another boost.
Ekelojuoti had earlier been denied by Alladoun Kolimba after 10 minutes, while Ifegwu Ojukwu and Tunde Bello saw their header and free kick kept out in a first half that had three Sunshine Stars’ penalty appeals ignored.
Nonetheless, Ekelojuoti broke the deadlock eight minutes into the second period by guiding in from an incisive Ibrahim Ajani’s cut back ball, to hand the hosts the advantage.
Ekelojuoti had the chance to grab his second in the 54′ but he miscued from Habib Yakub’s cross in front of goal under tight marking, before combining brilliantly with Sadeeq Yusuf for another thwarted opportunity in the 67′.
The game could have been put to bed six minutes from time when Yusuf found himself alone with the onrushing Kolimba, however the hitman dinked just wide in disbelief.
Regardless, Sunshine Stars comfortably preserved Ekelojuoti’s goal for the victory that took their point tally to 30 ahead of Sunday’s meeting with Heartland in Owerri.
