In fulfillment of its promise to strengthen the education sector to enhance teaching and learning process in primary schools, Ondo State Government on Monday began the distribution of employment letters to teachers.
Speaking with newsmen during the exercise, Permanent Secretary of State Universal Basic Education Board SUBEB, Mr Ogundele Kayode said it was the conclusion of a process that started last year.
Ogundele said the state Governor, Arakunrin Oluwarotimi Akeredolu last year gave an approval to recruit one thousand teachers to enhance learning and teaching in primary schools in the state.
“You will recall that last year, the Governor promised that his administration want to strengthen the education sector particularly in the area of enhancing the teaching and learning process, and one of those things that need to be done is to recruit teachers
We have been building schools, providing instructional materials but the teachers to teach the pupils are also very important. So the governor gave an approval for the recruitment and the process began by asking qualified candidates to apply.
“Over forty thousand candidates applied for the job and after screening to know those who have the educational qualifications, twelve thousand emerged.
“Thereafter we asked them to write a qualifying exam and after that we came up with the one thousand and I want to say here that the selection was based on merit,” he explained.
He debunked the rumor that the process was influenced, stating that selection cut across all the 18 local governments.
On when their resumption takes effect, Ogundele said “once you collect your letter and you have opened the file, you have resumed. The only thing is that you will still have to probably do some necessary things like submitting a medical report and your acceptance letter”.
One of the beneficiaries, Rotimi Damilola appreciated the state Governor, Arakunrin Oluwarotimi Akeredolu for giving her the opportunity to serve the state.
Rotimi who could not hide her joy promised to be diligent in her job to justify the confidence reposed in her.
Another beneficiary, Ademeso Eniomoye also appreciated the state government and promised to justify the confidence reposed in her.
The recruitment of teachers in the state by the Akeredolu’s administration came after over 13 years since the Agagu’s administration recruited the last set of teachers for the state
