The people of Iye-Akoko in Akoko Northwest Local Government of Ondo State, have appealed to the state government and the local government authority to come to their rescue, following the washing away of the deplorable Arigidi/Iye road by rain.

They said the road is the only route that links the community to other parts of Akoko land and  the state.

Investigations by The Hope Metro revealed that Monday’s heavy downpour washed away the five kilometre road, thereby making it impassable for commercial motorcycles, popularly known as Okada, which was before now the only means of transportation connecting the community with other parts of Akoko.

According to our findings, the road which has been in a deplorable condition over the years, is now in a bad state, affecting the socio-economic growth of the community.

A community leader in the town, Mr. Joseph Ehindero, in a chat with our correspondent, lamented the hardship brought about by the deplorable condition of the road.

He added that blackout in the area in the last six years and lack of telecommunication with the outside world have brought the economy of the Akoko community to a standstill.

A resident of the town, Mrs Stella Jegede, revealed that Iye market, with abundant farm produce is no more patronized because of bad road.

Jegede said that Okada is the only means of transportation from Arigidi.

According to her, the riders who have been charging exorbitantly before the rain may cease to operate in the route if something urgent is not done.
