As the 2019 Hajj exercise commences,  Islamic clerics have cautioned Nigerian Muslim pilgrims to Saudi Arabia against acts that could tarnish the image of the nation among international communities.

The Chief Imam of Ikare land, Sheik Abbas Abubakar, who doubles as the Chairman, League of Imams and Alfas, in Akokoland, made the call during a chat with The Hope at Ekan, Ikare Akoko.

Sheikh Abubakar posited that the titles of Ahaji and Alhaja is not the end of the exercise, but the fear of Allah.

He stated that doing what God ordains, abstaining from bad habits and doing good, including  assisting the needy are essential attributes of a good Muslim.

Another scholar, Shiek Olodeke Imam Bello expressed his concern over people who go to hajj with bad intentions.

Sheikh Olodeke warned seriously against carrying drugs and even kolanut along during the pilgrimage as Saudi authorities are not ready to spare anybody caught.

The annual exercise, according to him, should not be seen as a jamboree or mere excursion, but a holy journey that will spiritually transform the participants.
