Ondo State Governor, Lucky Aiyedatiwa, on Friday, paid a glowing tribute to late Gen Jones Oladehinde Arogbofa (retd), describing him as a devoted patriot who dedicated himself to the nation’s progress in various capacities.

Speaking at the funeral held at the African Church Nursery and Primary School, Owase, Oka Akoko, Governor Aiyedatiwa expressed condolences to the Arogbofa family, just as he commended the deceased’s significant contributions during his military service and tenure as Chief of Staff to former President Goodluck Jonathan.

Rather than mourning, the Governor urged family and friends to celebrate the fulfilling life lived by Gen Arogbofa, even though his passing left a big vacuum within the family and the nation.

“To the relatives, friends, and loved ones gathered here today, I want to let you know that this is a moment for celebration rather than mourning. We are here to honour the rich and fulfilled life that our departed loved one lived.

“While his passing brings sorrow to our hearts, let us take solace in the comforting words that, “blessed are those who mourn, for they shall be comforted”, as spoken by God. Though we have lost him, let us trust in the divine promise that God will provide solace and support to the immediate family in times of need”, Aiyedatiwa added.

The Governor also visited Bashorun Seinde Arogbofa, the elder brother of the deceased and Afenifere leader, at his residence in Oka, where he offered his condolences and expressed sympathy.

He equally pledged to continue to pursue the vision of the state’s founding fathers and ensure that his administration maintains its commitment to fostering an environment conducive to delivering effective governance for the people.

In his remarks, Bashorun Arogbofa expressed gratitude to the Governor for his visit. He also commended Aiyedatiwa for his ongoing efforts to reposition the state since assumption of office, assuring him of more support for his administration.

Earlier, former President Goodluck Jonathan, represented by Sen Pius Anyim, lauded late Gen Arogbofa’s exceptional service to the nation, and urged his family to find solace in the memories and legacy he left behind.

He said, “We express our gratitude to God for the fulfilled life led by the departed. While we mourn the loss of a friend, a brother, and a statesman, let us also embrace this occasion as a celebration of the vibrant life he lived. I urge the family to find moments of lightness amidst their grief, remembering that life continues beyond death.

“The departed held various meanings for different individuals, notably serving as a trusted friend to the former President, even in his role as Chief of Staff”, he added.

Speaking on behalf of the family, Mr. Tunde Arogbofa, extended heartfelt gratitude to all for their presence and support during this period of loss. He emphasized that the family deeply appreciated the outpouring of love and assistance received since the passing of their loved one.

General Jones Oladehinde Arogbofa died at the age of 73 years.

Other dignitaries at the event were Ondo State deputy governor, Dr Olayide Adelami, traditional rulers, political leaders, and other eminent personalities.
