Attack on monarch: Police begin stop and search in Ekiti

Ekiti State Police Command yesterday said officials of the command have commenced stop and search operations in all border towns and other porous roads across the state following the attack on the Atah of Ayede Ekiti, Oba Orisagbemi.

The police spokesperson, ASP Sunday Abutu, said the move was to unravel those behind the dastardly act and stop future occurrence.

The police said the monarch who is currently receiving and responding to treatment at a private medical facilities in Ado-Ekiti, would soon be discharged from the hospital.

The police said the officials of the Anti-kidnapping have commenced several activities aimed at arresting the culprits, promising that it would do everything to apprehend those behind the attack .

Abutu explained that apart from the stop and search, the police had also taken steps aimed at apprehending those behind the attack on the monarch.

It will be recalled that Oba Adeleye Orisagbemi, the Atah of Ayede-Ekiti, narrowly escaped death recently after he was attacked by yet to be identified gunmen.

The incident according to a witness happened on Sunday around 9pm between Isan and Ayede Ekiti when the monarch was returning from a meeting in Ijero-Ekiti.

Witnesses said the bandits attempted to kidnap the monarch, but met some resistance, a situation which led to him being shot several times.
