Couple die as truck rams into building in Ekiti

Tragedy struck in Ado-Ekiti, the capital of Ekiti State on Tuesday when a truck loaded with drugs suddenly lost control and rammed into a residential building in the town.
The incident occurred at Dalimo street at a sharp bend located behind Oluyemi Kayode Stadium in the heart of Ado-Ekiti.
The accident claimed the lives of a couple, while four other persons sustained various degrees of injuries.
The incident is coming up three weeks after a similar scenario occurred at the same spot during which three persons who are occupants of the storey building sustained serious injuries.
The truck marked LAGOS FKJ 403 XD was coming from the Oluyemi Kayode Stadium, when it suddenly lost control while descending the sloppy bend and rammed into a two-storey building before crushing a commercial bus loaded with pepper and tomatoes.
Apart from the couple whose identity is yet to be known, a man called “Baba Urobo” was said to be a commercial driver at the popular Shasha market in Ado-Ekiti.
The identity of other victims who sustained injuries is yet to be ascertained as at the time of filling this report. But a source said two commercial motorcyclists, including their passengers have been rushed to the Ekiti State Specialist Hospital for urgent medical attention.
When our correspondent arrived at the scene of the incident, large crowd who are residents of the town were seen mailing around the scene apparently to cash a glimpse of the victims.
Some were seen crying profusely and wailing, while youths, including Okada riders were also noticed embarking on rescue operations.
Similarly, a towing vehicle belonging to the Ekiti State Ministry of Transport was also seen in the rescue operation.
Similarly, police officers from the Ekiti State Police Command were controlling free movement of vehicles apparently to forestall long traffic in the area.
When contacted, the Police Public Relations Officer Ekiti State Command, Mr Sunday Abutu, said the victims have been rushed to the State Specialist Hospital where they are currently receiving treatment.
