Court remands herder for macheting farmer

An Akure Magistrates’ Court, has remanded a herder, Ibrahim Manger, in a custodial centre for allegedly attempting to kill one Ibiloye Wahab by inflicting matchet on his head.

Men of the Ondo State Security Network Agency codenamed Amotekun Corps, arraigned the 30-year-old herder, on Thursday on three counts of attempted murder and for violating the Ondo State Livestock Rearing and Grazing Regulation.

The state prosecutor, Mr. O. F Akeredolu, informed the court that the defendant attempted to kill one Ibiloye Wahab, by inflicting machete cuts on his head.

Akeredolu alleged that the defendant, without permit, openly grazed livestock at Femi Aremu’s farm while armed with dangerous weapons.

He said the defendant committed the offence on March 13, 2022, at about 2:30pm at Ore, in Ondo State.

The offences, according to the prosecution, are contrary to Section 32(1), (5),of the Ondo State Livestock Rearing and Grazing Regulation and Establishment Law, 2021 and 320 of Criminal Code Law, Cap. 37, Vol. 1, Laws of Ondo State of Nigeria, 2006.

However, the defendant pleaded not guilty to the charge when it was read to him

Akeredolu, therefore, prayed the court to adjourned the case to enable him to gather the five prosecution witnesses. He asked tbe court to remand the defendant pending trial.

Counsel to the defendant, Olugbenga Akinkuotu appealed to the court to grant him bail in liberal terms.

He explained that the defendant’s father had paid the bill of the victim, whom he said has fully recovered.

The Magistrate, N. K. Aladejana, granted the prosecutor’s application and ordered the remand of the defendant  in a custodial centre.

Aladejana told the defence  counsel to file a formal application for the bail of the defendant.

The case was adjourned till April 14, 2022 for mention
