Court remands man over cable theft

An Akure Chief Magistrates’ Court has remanded a 35-year-old man Emmanuel Oyebola for alleged cable theft.

The defendant allegedly committed the offence on May 11, 2023 at about 4:00pm at UNIMED Teaching Hospital, Akure, Ondo State.

The prosecutor, Wada Simon informed the court that the defendant stole cable wire valued at N450,000 property of  the  hospital, Akure.

The offence committed contravenes Sections 383, 451,390(9) of the Criminal Code, Cap. 37, Volume. 1, Laws of Ondo State Nigeria, 2006.

The defendant, however pleaded not guilty to the offence leveled against him.

The defence counsel, A.Y Aliu prayed the court to grant his client bail in most liberal term, promising that the defendant would provide credible and reliable sureties.

In his ruling, Magistrate Damilola Sekoni, however, granted the defendant bail in the sum of N500,000 with two sureties in like sum.

Sekoni ordered that the sureties must reside within the court’s jurisdiction and should be gainfully employed with evidence of tax payment to the Ondo State Government.

The defendant could not meet the bail conditions and was thereafter remanded at Ondo correctional centre and the case was adjourned till July 14, 2023 for hearing
