The Judicial Panel of Enquiry on police brutality in Ondo state and other matters has received two fresh petitions, taking the total to 37.
The panel initially received 32 cases before it began sitting on December 3, 2020 but three additional petitions were received before the end of 2020, making it 35.
The two new petitions received this week were submitted by Chief Rafiu Fadairo and Ondo Development Committee.
Chief Fadairo, is asking for N5million compensation over his Mercedes Benz that was burnt by hoodlums during the EndSARS protest.
Also, the Ondo Development Committee is asking for N37.5 compensation over Ondo commercial building that was also razed during the protest.
Questioned why the petitions were not submitted earlier to the panel, the counsel to the two petitioners, Bar Steve Adebowale said they had issues with documentations because both the car and the building documents were burnt alongside the property.
The Panel, headed by Justice Adesola Sidiq (Rtd) adjourned the cases till January 26 for a visit to Ondo town to assess the vandalised property.
The petition submitted by Oladipupo Mathew on vandalisation of his office was adjourned till January 12, 2021 for his counsel, Adeolu Ajayi to regularise the petition for hearing.
The panel had on December 17, 2020 visited the vandalised property to assess the level of damage done by hoodlums during the EndSARS protest
Meanwhile, the panel visited Ondo town this Wednesday to assess the damage done to the property of three petitioners from the town. The petitioners are; Mr Evans Okeke, Olusola Akinmejiwa and Theophilus Ilemobayo.
The counsel to the petitioners, Samson Iluyemi and Adolu Ajayi, who spoke with The Hope after the panel’s visit, expressed confidence in the panel to discharge its duties as appropriate.
The three cases were adjourned till January 21, 2021 for hearing.
