The Chairman, Parents Teachers Association, (PTA), Ondo State chapter, High Chief Abimbola Omoloja has advised  authorities of schools  in the state to ensure that the second term syllabus is covered.

Omoloja ,who gave the advice in a telephone interview with The Hope stated that despite the postponement of elections which has affected the school calendar, teachers must gear up to meet up with the curriculum.

“What has happened is a service paid to the nation, they should cover up as much as possible to block the loophole and ensure that the calendar of the term is covered”, he emphasised.

The PTA Chairman also enjoined students to work harder saying that their  future is in their hands and they must be ready to make  sacrifice by being serious with their studies.

While charging students not to allow themselves to be used as political thugs, he  stressed that those above 18  years of age should go out quietly and vote.

Omoloja equally admonished the government to play a neutral role and   ensure that the elections is free, fair, and credible.

“They should not be partisan ,but ensure  that peace is maintained to avoid rancour before, during, and after the elections.

He assured that all hands will continue to be on deck to achieve the set goal in the education sector.

Reacting to this development, a public school teacher Mrs Ronke Orimoloye  noted  that INEC’s decision will affect the second term academic calendar, unless teachers put in extra efforts to cover up.

She said  the polls’ shift will  affect  students in the boarding schools as they will be travelling home frequently.”Some of us who are teachers are deeply sad.”

“With the new election arrangements, students would have holidays on three different occasions in the second term”,  she stated.

In his comment, a private school teacher, Mr Abiodun Adegoke said students who are in SS 3 are  supposed  to be doing serious reading and learning,as they will be writing external examinations which will commence towards the end of March.

To him, the change in elections schedules was a loss to many sectors.

He therefore posited that heads  of schools must re strategise to meet up with the academic calendar. “Stakeholders in the sector, in line with the reschedule, must find new approaches and see how the calendar could blend to cover the syllabus within the available time frame”.

He opined that  primary schools,  secondary schools, and tertiary institutions must work towards adjusting their calendar in line with INEC’s new schedules.

A parent, Mr Daniel Ayeloja said that students, especially those in the universities who have just recovered from the recently suspended three months ASUU strike would be mostly affected by the postponement.”I can only pray that we get it right as a nation “.
